State Testing


A  BIG thanks to my students for following instructions and staying focused  while taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).   On October 28-29, 2019,  they will take the Iowa Assessments (IA).  Please ensure that your child is present and on time each day.   

CiCi's Pizza Night
Thanks to those parents who were able to come out to CiCi's Pizza Night!  It was great seeing each of you.  

Field Studies
Payments for the 2019- 2020 Field Studies are due by November 11th and should  be made online through Parent Portal under the “Student Fees” section.

Headphones
Please check with  your child  to see if they are in need of headphones.  They are an essential part of using the Chromebook.


Blue Communication Folder
You should check your child's book bag  each Thursday for their blue communication folder.  Please read and complete all form/ assessments.  Folders should be  returned each Friday with all homework assignments for the week.    If you need additional time with your child's folder, please let me know.  



Friday, November 1st    will be a Half Day/STEAM Day.  Please notify me by a note, an email or call if there are any changes in how your child will get home.

This week’s reading selection: A River of Ice
Big Idea: In what ways can Earth’s surface change? Ask your child how this week’s reading selection helps him or her answer this question.

Summary: A glacier is made of snow that turns into a huge pile of ice. Glaciers change the shape of the land as they form and as they move, creating frozen peaks and deep valleys.

Essential Question: In what ways can frozen water change the shape of the land? DISCUSS with your child some of the effects of glaciers melting.

Vocabulary Focus: 
1. glacier -  noun a large mass of ice formed by snow that does not melt 
2. time -  noun the period during which events, conditions, and actions happen 
3. press -  verb to bear down on 
4. crevasse-  noun a deep crack or crevice in a glacier 
5. happens-  verb takes place; occurs 
6. scratch -  verb to cut or mark with something rough or sharp 
7. rub-  verb to move against something else or against each other 
8. valley-  noun an area of low land between hills or mountains 
9. fjords-  noun long, narrow inlets of the sea between high cliffs
10.over - preposition during the time of; throughout
